Ernest Doty grew up in New Mexico and is a member of the Oakland art community. While he is a member of several graffiti crews he is a muralist and not a writer. His murals enable him to tell a story and connect with the audience. He frequently paints stand alone birds or incorporates them into his murals like this one. In an interview he stated “they represent freedom and an ability to venture into the psychedelic realm. I definitely feel a connection to them as we are all one with nature whether we choose to accept and recognize it or not.”
